Laird Club was founded by David Le Cornu. It was one of the first groups for malt whisky lovers in Australia. At a time when single malt was still a niche drink, he was already bringing Scotch whisky to Australian drinkers and choosing casks to bottle under his own label.
■ An Australian Mark on the Label
Look closely at the bottom of the front label and you will see the words "Malt Whisky Wholesalers Pty Ltd." This was an Australian whisky importer, based on Prospect Road in Australia at the time. It tells the story of how this bottle travelled from Scotland to the other side of the world.
■ One Whisky, Two Names
As well as Laird Club, David Le Cornu also released bottlings under his own name. This Longmorn 1974 33 Years Old was released under both names: "Laird Club" and "David Le Cornu". For collectors interested in the history of independent bottlings, this makes it a particularly interesting find.
